Adding files to the database
This chapter explains how to add files to the database
Before you start adding
Select Options->Preferences from the main menu and check the options
under 'Add Options'. Image files (.jpg) may contain 'IPTC' information, and
music files may contain song and artist information. LCAMediabase will add
this information as keywords to the keyword list if you check the
corresponding options. LCAMediabase will also index the files accordingly
(see below).
The Auto-Indexing feature
When you are adding files to the database LCAMediabase tries to associate
keywords with the files by comparing the filenames and the information
'hidden' in the files (so-called metatags in image, music and document
files) with already known keywords.
Note: also try 'Selection->Generate Keywords' if your files contain this kind of information.
Adding normal files
Three ways to do this:
- From the Import & Browse screen:
Locate and select the file folder that contains the files you wish to
add (press Ctrl+S to display all files in subfolders also). Then select
the files you wish to add (Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+leftclick to
select individual files, Shift+leftclick to select a range of
files).
Then rightclick on the selected file(s) to get the popup menu and
select Selection-> Add to Database (or press
Ctrl+Alt+D).
Alternatively, you can drag & drop files from the list onto
the folder tree if you wish to copy or move the file(s) to a different
folder first.
-
Drag & drop files from the Windows Explorer onto the
Database screen
- Prepare a text containing the full filenames of the files you wish to
add and drag this text as a text block onto the database screen. You can
use Wordpad or MsWord for this.
Adding internet files
(URL's)
LCAMediabase can also store files stored on a webserver.
Two ways to do this:
-
Drag & drop the link(url) from your browser on the database
screen
- Do as in option 3 above, but enter url's in the text instead of
filenames. (must always start with 'http://')
Note: The url must point to a file on a webserver; for
instance you cannot add 'http://www.lcamediabase.com' because it does not
point to a file, but you can add
'http://www.lcamediabase.com/index.html'.
